Product Video Shoots: Short-Format Production Focused on a Single Product

A product video shoot produces a short, focused video format that puts a single product forward, optimized for the e-commerce page and the marketplace shopfront; unlike a corporate brand film, it gives priority to the detail of the product, the moment of use and the scene that triggers the decision to buy.

01

Studio Shoot, or a Shoot at Your Own Premises?

Both approaches answer a different need.

In a studio, fixed lighting, a cyclorama backdrop and a turntable are used; that setup makes it easier to show every angle of the product under consistent light, to keep the background plain, and to hold colour consistent in post-production. For products such as cosmetics, jewellery and electronic accessories, where clarity of detail comes first, the studio is the choice. Shooting at the business's own premises, on the other hand, shows the product in its real context of use; for furniture, equipment or service-backed products, the atmosphere of the space, the sense of scale and the usage scenario all give the viewer confidence. The choice is settled by the size of the product and the visual language of the platform being targeted.

Marketplace Format and Technical Edit Details

On marketplaces such as Trendyol, the product video is cut to a square or vertical ratio, suited to silent playback and showing the product clearly in the first few seconds; because the system expects the message to land without sound, the information is usually carried by subtitles or on-screen text. A video prepared for your own e-commerce site, by contrast, is delivered in a horizontal or square ratio, with compression and a cover frame suited to being embedded in the product page gallery. At the edit stage the product's strongest feature is brought to the front, unnecessary transition effects are avoided, and the brand logo and product name are placed on the scene plainly. A video prepared without regard to the format difference can end up cropped between platforms, or lose its message. The footage cannot show the product as anything other than what it is; Türkiye's commercial advertising legislation prohibits misleading presentation.

On the right, a shoot at the business's premises: simple blocks in the background standing for the space, the same product in front and a single cone of natural light from one side. The two setups are drawn at the same size, in the same frame and at the same level of detail. Beneath them is the note “Both approaches answer a different need”. In the animation the panels come first, then the light cones and the products, and the bottom lines last. 02 Marketplace format Marketplace format: a vertical product frame and square, vertical and horizontal ratio badges — illustrative graphic On the left, a vertical product frame; the product inside it, and around it a dashed border showing the limit of the cropping. On the right, three ratio badges one below the other: square, vertical and horizontal. Beside each badge is an empty rectangle showing that ratio; the boxes are deliberately left without dimensions written in. No marketplace name or logo is drawn. In the animation the frame appears, then the badges come in from the right one by one. 03 Technical edit Technical edit: a four-clip edit timeline, a sound wave and three process badges — illustrative graphic At the top, an edit timeline made of four clip boxes of different widths; one has an accent border with the note “strongest feature” beneath it. In the middle, a sound wave line and the label “background music”. At the bottom, three process badges: colour, sound and subtitles, each made of an icon and a label. The clip widths are illustrative and show no duration value. In the animation the clips come in one by one and the sound wave is drawn from left to right. Illustrative graphic. It draws the route the page describes: the shoot setup in the studio or at the business's premises, the marketplace format and the technical edit. At the first stop the two setups are deliberately drawn at the same size and at the same level of detail — the page presents both as options answering different needs, and neither is shown as better or worse than the other. The ratio boxes are deliberately empty: no resolution, duration or file size value is published on this page, so no dimension is written on them. The clip widths aren't durations either; they only say that the edit is built from cuts of different lengths. No marketplace name, brand or platform logo is drawn.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions: the product video shoot

Is the product video shot in a studio, or at the business's own premises?

It depends on the nature of the product; small, portable products are shot in the studio, while products tied to a place or on a large scale are shot in the business's own setting. The decision is settled together at the initial discussion.

Should the product video format be different for marketplaces?

Yes. Marketplace shopfronts generally expect a square or vertical ratio, watchability without sound and a short run; the version prepared for your own site may have a different ratio and a different edit. Both formats can be derived from the same shoot.

Can more than one product video be completed in a single shoot?

If the products suit a similar scene setup, then yes — several products can be filmed one after another in the same session. In that case the scene changes and product swaps are planned in advance to speed the flow along.

What's the difference between a product video and a product promotional film?

A product video is a short, direct format focused on a single product; a product promotional film generally carries a broader narrative, a story structure and a brand message. The two serve different purposes and call for different production processes.

Are products sent to the studio for the shoot, or filmed on site?

Both options are possible. The product can be sent to the studio by courier, or the team can travel to a location of the business's choosing and film there. The preference is settled by how portable the product is and by the concept of the shoot.

How is the product video integrated into the e-commerce site?

The delivered video is prepared with compression and in a file format that can be placed in the gallery area of the product page. The cover frame, the file name and the dimensions are set to the requirements of the e-commerce platform in use.

The detail

If you'd like to look before deciding

  1. 01

    Lighting and Scene Setup

Soft or hard light sources are chosen according to the surface of the product; on products with a glossy finish, a polarizing filter and a diffuser are used to control reflection. The scene background is kept plain so that it doesn't distract on the product page, and where necessary it is brought into line with the brand's corporate colour palette.

  2. 02

Product Direction and the Test Shoot

Before the shoot, the angle and the movement that show the product at its best are settled with a short test. Turntable shots, close-up detail shots and moment-of-use scenes are planned so the edit has room to move; that way several cuts can be produced from a single product.

  3. 03

    Sound and Subtitle Integration

Against the likelihood of being watched without sound, the important information is backed up with on-screen text or subtitles. The background music and, where there is one, the voiceover are chosen to suit the product's tone and audience, so the video holds together.
